Wedding

After the ceremony
we posed on the stairway
of the old courthouse.
The banisters rode up
to the landing above
and the tiled floor radiated
in all directions.
Behind us two light fixtures
shone.

She handed you the picture
and we rushed out
into the empty Santa Ana streets,
the morning sky hurrying along,
the Polaroid
turning from black to brown
to orange to yellow
to us.
